Victor Vandenbroucke remains a player to watch in the international recruitment landscape, with the United States and Belgium still potential options following his decision to step away from Honduras. The 18-year-old defender was called up for Honduras’ Concacaf Nations League campaign but did not feature in any of the team’s four matches, meaning he has yet to make an international appearance for the country.
The Honduran Football Federation confirmed on October 6 that Vandenbroucke had communicated his decision to step away from the national team for the time being. According to the federation’s statement, the player cited personal reflection and difficulties adapting to Honduran culture and everyday life. The announcement followed his first senior call-up, which came after previous involvement in Honduras’ youth setup.

Born in Los Angeles to an American father and a Honduran mother, Vandenbroucke has a background that connects him to multiple national teams. He moved to Belgium at the age of 10 and developed as a footballer there, representing Belgian youth teams before becoming involved with Honduras. His family background and birthplace also provide a connection to the United States.
Under FIFA’s eligibility regulations, being called up to a national team does not, by itself, tie a player to that country. Participation in official matches and the player’s previous international history are important factors in determining whether a player can represent another association. Because Vandenbroucke did not take the field for Honduras, his recent call-up did not constitute an international appearance for the senior team.
The United States and Belgium therefore remain potential pathways, although his precise eligibility would depend on the applicable FIFA regulations, his nationality documentation and the status of his previous appearances for Belgium’s youth teams. Any future decision involving a change of association or confirmation of eligibility would need to comply with FIFA’s rules.

At club level, Vandenbroucke continues his development with KAA Gent in Belgium, where he has featured for Jong Gent. The defender’s experience in Belgian football and his exposure to multiple international youth environments make his national-team future a storyline worth following as his career progresses.
For now, no decision to represent either the United States or Belgium has been announced. Vandenbroucke’s next international step remains open, giving both federations a potential opportunity to follow his development as he continues his career in Belgium.
