Victor Vandenbroucke Receives First Honduras Senior Call-Up at 17

Victor Vandenbroucke’s international journey has taken another significant turn.

The 17-year-old center back has received his first call-up to the Honduras senior national team, adding another chapter to one of the more unusual international paths among young players in Europe.

Born in Los Angeles on September 27, 2008, Vandenbroucke has developed primarily in Belgium, where he has progressed through the academy system at KAA Gent. His international career, however, has already taken him through three different national programs.

Before committing to Honduras, Vandenbroucke represented both the United States U-17 and Belgium U-17 teams. He later joined the Honduras U-20 setup, making the move toward the country of his family roots before now receiving his first opportunity with the senior national team.

That progression means Vandenbroucke has already worn the colors of three countries at youth level before his 18th birthday — the United States, Belgium and Honduras.

Vandenbroucke was born in California but moved to Belgium with his family when he was 10 years old. His football education subsequently took place largely in the Belgian system, eventually leading him to KAA Gent.

The 2008-born defender has progressed through Gent’s academy and into the club’s U-23 setup, where he has continued to gain experience against older opposition. His development has accelerated over the past year, eventually leading to his first professional contract with the Belgian club.

His first international experiences came with the United States, representing the U-17 national team. He subsequently appeared for Belgium U-17, reflecting the fact that he was developing inside the Belgian football system while remaining eligible to represent the country of his birth.

His international path then changed direction.

In 2026, Vandenbroucke joined Honduras U-20, beginning a new chapter with the Central American nation. Rather than waiting for the U-20 cycle to run its course, however, Honduras has now accelerated his integration into the senior setup.

His development at Gent has given him the opportunity to train and compete within one of Belgium’s established professional environments, while his youth international experience has exposed him to different footballing cultures.

Now Honduras is giving him the chance to take that experience into the senior national-team environment.

His next appearance could therefore mark the beginning of a new chapter — and potentially the point at which one of international football’s most intriguing youth journeys becomes permanently associated with Honduras.
