“It was a bit for me to get used to things after such a big jump in levels,” he admits. “But by being determined and being around a great group of guys, I’m now able to compete at this level.”

The former Sporting Kansas City Academy standout made headlines when Birmingham signed him in early 2024, one of the youngest players in club history. The transition wasn’t instant. Early matches were more about observation than domination — watching veterans, adjusting to the rhythm of senior football. But once he settled, the growth became undeniable.

“I’d describe myself as a modern-day, ball-playing center back,” he says. “Playing in this league has really forced me to step up my decision-making. Going from the academy level to professional was a reality check.”

He’s comfortable at left-back when called upon, but his heart lies in the middle — orchestrating from behind, seeing the full pitch.

“I like being able to see everything from the middle of the field,” he adds.

In many ways, that sums up Hamouda perfectly: observant, analytical, calm under pressure.

For Hamouda, Birmingham isn’t just a stop on his journey — it’s where the journey truly began.

“Being part of Birmingham Legion means a lot to me,” he says. “It’s where I signed my first professional contract, so it’ll always stick with me.”

Still, the teenager’s ambitions are clear. “My aspirations have always been to play in Europe,” he admits. “I felt Birmingham was the best place to give me that opportunity.”

And he may not be wrong. European scouts have already taken notice. Werder Bremen reportedly showed interest in bringing him to Germany, but U-18 restrictions mean that move will have to wait. For now, he’s focused on the present — and on the bigger stages ahead.

Eyes on the World Stage

This year could bring another milestone: the U-17 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Hamouda has been a regular in U.S. youth national team camps, anchoring a talented defensive group with a quiet authority that has earned him respect among his peers.

“We wanna win the whole thing — but taking it one game at a time is what will get us there. This is a very close-knit, talented group. All the pressure and expectations are just outside noise. It doesn’t affect us.”

That balance — ambition without arrogance — defines Hamouda’s mindset.

A League That Hardens You

Ask him about the USL Championship, and his answer comes without hesitation.

“It’s definitely more intense and physical than tactical,” he says. “There are a lot of teams that rely on their physical advantages to win games.”

That physicality has shaped his development. It’s one thing to play out from the back in an academy match — it’s another when a veteran forward barrels into you at full speed. Those moments have toughened him, sharpened him, and accelerated his evolution.

Hunger and Humility

If there’s one moment that defined his journey so far, it was his professional debut.

“That match really shifted my career,” he recalls. “Once I got a taste of it, my hunger to play was at its highest it’s ever been. What’s helped me most,” he says, “is enjoying the process and making the most of every opportunity — because I know not everyone gets the chances I’ve had.”

That gratitude keeps him grounded, even as he dreams big.

“I see myself jumping levels in the next few years,” he says confidently. “Hopefully going to Europe. I want to play in the best league in the world — the Premier League.”

Looking Ahead

Hamouda’s story is still being written, but the chapters so far reveal a player with uncommon maturity and drive. A young center-back who sees both the ball and the bigger picture.
