Mexican-American Talent Featured Across Mexico Youth National Teams

Mexican-American players continue to play an increasingly important role in Mexico’s youth national team structure.

Across the U15, U16 and U17 levels, more than 20 players developed in the United States have been included in recent Mexico youth national team squads, representing academies from MLS, Liga MX and, in one case, a recent move to European football.

The latest call-ups once again highlight the growing competition for dual-national talent between Mexico and the United States, with players from some of the top MLS academies receiving opportunities to represent El Tri at the international level.

Six Mexican-Americans Named to Mexico U17 Squad

Mexico’s U17 national team has called up a strong group of Mexican-American players for its current camp and upcoming friendlies against Colombia.

Marcelo Ávalos of San Jose Earthquakes, Jonathan De La Fuente of Colorado Rapids, Matthew Arana of Houston Dynamo, Santiago Cisneros of León and Juan Martínez of Querétaro are all part of the squad.

They are joined by George Porter of Minnesota United, who has earned his first call-up to the Mexico U17 national team.

Another interesting name in the group is Saulo Tejeda, a former San Diego Surf player who recently joined Croatian club NK Lokomotiva, taking an important step in his club career by moving to Europe.

Mexico U17 has two friendlies scheduled against Colombia and has already played the first match, earning an impressive 4-1 victory over the South American side.

The upcoming matches will give the group an opportunity to continue building chemistry while Mexico evaluates a number of players who could play an important role at the next stage of the youth national team pathway.

Nine Mexican-Americans Included in Mexico U16 Squad

At the U16 level, Mexico has also called up a significant group of Mexican-American players for the Liga MX International Tournament.

A total of nine Mexican-American players are part of the squad.

Chris Guillen Lopez of FC Dallas, Lisandro Torres of LAFC, Dylan Reyes of Houston Dynamo and Jorge Salmeron of Columbus Crew have all been included.

They are joined by Paxon Ruffin of Monterrey, Zamir Loyo-Reynaga of Sporting Kansas City and Félix Gomez of LAFC.

For two players, the tournament will represent a first opportunity with Mexico.

Daniel Carmona of Real Salt Lake has earned his first call-up, while Benji Flowers of FC Dallas, a player born in 2011, has also received his first invitation to the Mexico U16 national team.

Mexico will face LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders and Universidad Católica during the competition.

The tournament will also feature Toluca, Pachuca, Atlas and Monterrey, providing the Mexican national team players with the opportunity to compete against both MLS and Liga MX academy opposition.

For the U16 group, the event represents an important opportunity to evaluate how these players perform in an international and inter-academy environment while continuing to expand Mexico’s pool of dual-national prospects.

Mexico U15 Brings Together Another Strong Group

Mexico’s U15 national team has also called up nine Mexican-American players for its upcoming Four Nations Tournament.

The squad includes David Jaimes of FC Dallas, Mason Washington of LAFC, Ethan O’Neill of San Diego FC, Gio Zambrano of Chicago Fire and Aidan Carlos of LAFC.

Also included are Chris Gonzalez of Houston Dynamo, Jayden Gonzalez of Seattle Sounders, Xavi Soria of Colorado Rapids and Romualdo Aguirre of Monterrey.

The team will take part in the Four Nations Tournament against Panama, Houston Dynamo and Peru.

The latest U15, U16 and U17 call-ups demonstrate just how important Mexican-American talent has become across Mexico’s youth national team structure.

Players from FC Dallas, LAFC, Houston Dynamo, San Jose Earthquakes, Colorado Rapids, Minnesota United, Columbus Crew, Sporting Kansas City, Seattle Sounders and San Diego FC are all represented across the three age groups.

Mexico continues to place significant importance on the next generation of talent developing across the United States.

And with multiple camps, tournaments and international matches taking place, these young players now have another opportunity to show why they could become an important part of El Tri’s future.
