Leonard Prescott’s future at Bayern Munich is becoming an increasingly interesting story, with uncertainty over his contract opening the door for potential moves elsewhere in Europe. The 17-year-old goalkeeper has attracted interest from Chelsea and other clubs, while his background also makes him a name to watch for the United States as the competition for his international future continues.

According to recent reports from Sky Germany, negotiations over a contract extension have stalled, with Prescott’s current deal set to expire in June 2027. Chelsea and Juventus are among the clubs monitoring his situation, while several Bundesliga sides are also reportedly interested. Bayern are keen to keep one of their most promising young goalkeepers, but the pathway to regular first-team football could become a decisive factor in his next move.

One of the main complications is Bayern’s long-term planning in goal. With Jonas Urbig viewed as a potential successor to Manuel Neuer, Prescott may have to weigh his development opportunities against the competition at the Allianz Arena. The New York-born goalkeeper has already experienced life around the senior squad, earning a place on Bayern’s bench for the Champions League knockout-stage meeting with Atalanta in March 2026 during an injury crisis among the club’s goalkeepers. He did not make his senior debut, but the call-up offered a glimpse of how highly he is regarded within the club.

Prescott’s profile is particularly intriguing because of his background. Born in New York on September 23, 2009, he has an American father and a German mother. He grew up in Berlin from an early age, developed in Union Berlin’s youth system and joined Bayern in 2023. Standing around 1.96 meters tall, he has been praised for his composure, technical ability and distribution—qualities that are increasingly important for modern goalkeepers.

Internationally, Prescott has already taken steps with Germany, making his debut for the country’s U-17 team in September 2025 after previously featuring at U-16 level. However, his youth international appearances have not tied him permanently to Germany’s senior national team. Because he was born in the United States and has an American parent, he remains eligible to represent the USMNT, making him a potential long-term option for the U.S. Soccer program.

For the United States, Prescott would represent an intriguing prospect in a position where identifying and developing high-level talent early is especially valuable. His experience in the Bayern system, exposure to the demands of elite European football and potential pathway toward senior minutes could make him a goalkeeper worth following. Still, there is no confirmed indication that he intends to switch international allegiance, and his current involvement with Germany should not be mistaken for a decision about his senior future.

For now, Prescott faces two important decisions in parallel: finding the clearest route toward first-team football and continuing to develop his international career. Whether that future remains at Bayern or takes him to England, his next move could have implications beyond the club level. For American soccer followers, his situation is one to monitor—but any potential USMNT involvement remains a possibility rather than a confirmed development.
