Golden Boot and a Championship: Joaquin Jackson Shines for Atlas at Liga MX International U-17

Joaquin Jackson has just enjoyed the biggest tournament of his young career.

The 2009-born Mexican-American forward finished as the top scorer of the Liga MX International U-17 Tournament with seven goals, while also helping Atlas claim the championship. Atlas defeated the Seattle Sounders 6-5 on penalties after the final ended 2-2 in regulation, giving Jackson both the tournament’s Golden Boot and a championship medal.

It was a standout individual performance from a player who has taken an increasingly interesting path through the American and Mexican development systems.

Before making his way to Liga MX, Jackson developed at Chula Vista FC in Southern California. He joined the club at a young age and spent several years developing within its academy, competing in the MLS NEXT environment and establishing himself as one of the notable players in his age group.

His performances with Chula Vista eventually opened another door: Mexico’s youth national team.

Jackson earned a call-up to the Mexico U-15 national team, representing another important step in his development and giving him the opportunity to compete internationally with one of the region’s most established youth programs. His involvement with Mexico also reflected his eligibility and connection to the country while he was still developing in the United States.

That experience came before the next major move in his career.

In 2025, Jackson left Chula Vista FC and joined Atlas, moving to Guadalajara to continue his development inside the Liga MX academy system. The transition took him from the Southern California academy environment into one of Mexico’s most competitive youth structures.

Now, less than two years after making that move, Jackson has produced a tournament that puts his progress into perspective.

Seven goals made him the most prolific scorer in the competition, while Atlas ultimately lifted the trophy after a dramatic penalty shootout against Seattle. For Jackson, the Golden Boot provides the individual recognition; for Atlas, his production helped contribute to a championship-winning campaign.

His story is still being written, but the trajectory is becoming increasingly clear. Jackson began developing in Chula Vista, earned his opportunity with Mexico U-15 and then took the next step by moving to Atlas.

The latest chapter has ended with seven goals, a Golden Boot and a Liga MX International U-17 championship.

For a 2009-born forward, it is quite a statement.
