A New Challenge in Mexico: Jaidyn Contreras Joins Tigres

Jaidyn Contreras is taking the next step in his development, with the 18-year-old FC Dallas Homegrown joining Tigres UANL on loan through June 30, 2027, with the Liga MX club holding an option to make the move permanent. The deal gives the young winger an opportunity to continue his development in Mexico after an impressive summer on the international stage with the United States U-20s. 

Contreras was one of the standout attacking players for the U.S. at the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship, where the Americans reached the final before finishing runners-up to Mexico. His impact went beyond simply earning minutes: he finished the tournament with three assists, tied for the tournament lead, and a tournament-high 31 crosses, numbers that earned him a place in the competition’s Best XI. 

The move to Tigres represents a significant change of environment for Contreras. A Houston native, he came through the FC Dallas academy before making his professional debut with North Texas SC in July 2024. He was part of the North Texas side that won the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro Cup, and across his 2024-26 spell with the club, he made 41 appearances, scoring three goals and providing six assists. 

Contreras signed his FC Dallas Homegrown contract in January 2026, another indication of the club’s belief in his potential. Before heading to the U-20 tournament, he had made 11 appearances for North Texas SC during the 2026 season, registering one goal and two assists. 

Now, rather than continuing exclusively within the FC Dallas system, Contreras will get the chance to test himself inside one of Mexico’s biggest clubs.

For Tigres, the deal is also a bet on a player whose stock rose considerably during the summer. The club had been tracking Contreras and saw enough in his performances to pursue a loan with the possibility of turning it into a permanent transfer. 

Contreras’ international story makes the move even more interesting.

Born in Houston, he is eligible to represent the United States, Mexico and Honduras. Before establishing himself with the U.S. youth national team, he also represented Honduras at youth level, including four appearances and his first international goal against Cuba in December 2025.

His latest international chapter, however, has been with the United States. After earning his second U.S. U-19 call-up of 2026, Contreras became an important part of the team that reached the Concacaf U-20 Championship final. His three assists and 31 crosses ultimately placed him among the tournament’s best performers.

That is the version of Contreras that Tigres will be hoping to develop further.

At just 18, he now has the opportunity to compete for a place in a Liga MX environment while continuing to build on the momentum generated by his international breakout. For FC Dallas, it is a chance to expose one of its young Homegrowns to a new level of competition. And for Contreras, it could be the next step toward turning a strong U-20 tournament into a breakthrough at the senior level.
