Alexander Shaw’s rise with Inter Miami has reached another important stage.

The 18-year-old midfielder scored his first MLS goal in spectacular fashion, finding the back of the net during Inter Miami’s dominant 7-1 victory over CF Montréal.

For Shaw, the goal represents the latest chapter in a progression that began years ago, when he became part of Inter Miami’s academy during the early stages of the club’s youth development program.

Now, the 2008-born midfielder is beginning to establish himself at the professional level.

Shaw has been with Inter Miami since the beginning of the club’s academy, making his development particularly significant within an organization that has grown rapidly over the past several years.

Rather than arriving after the academy had already become an established pathway, Shaw developed alongside the system itself.

His progression eventually took him into MLS NEXT Pro, where he has accumulated 15 appearances for Inter Miami’s developmental side.

That experience provided Shaw with an important bridge between youth soccer and the professional game, allowing him to compete against older players and become accustomed to the demands of the professional environment.

Shaw’s first-team breakthrough came on March 14, 2026, when he made his Inter Miami debut against Charlotte FC.

Six days later, the club made another important decision regarding his future.

Inter Miami signed Shaw to his first-team professional contract, formally moving the midfielder into the club’s senior setup after years of development within the organization.

The sequence was a clear indication of the confidence Inter Miami had in his progression.

Since then, Shaw has continued to receive opportunities with the first team. He has made three MLS appearances during the 2026 season, gaining valuable experience while competing for minutes within a squad featuring some of the biggest names in the league.

At only 18, the midfielder still has considerable room to develop, but the early signs have been encouraging. His ability to progress through multiple levels of the Inter Miami structure has earned him a place around the first team, and his latest performance provides another reason for the club to continue investing in his development.

Shaw has represented the United States at both U18 and U20 level, most recently joining the U20 national team for the CONCACAF tournament.

That experience has given him exposure to international football and placed him within another important development pathway.

There is, however, another layer to his international future.

Shaw is also eligible to represent Colombia, meaning his senior international allegiance remains a potential storyline as his career progresses.

It was the night he scored his first MLS goal.

More importantly, it was another indication that a player who has grown alongside Inter Miami’s academy is beginning to make his presence felt at the highest level of the club.

Alexander Shaw is no longer simply a product of Inter Miami’s academy. He is becoming part of its first-team future.
