The future of football is heading to Miami.
From Dec. 9–14, the Messi Cup will take over South Florida — a global youth football tournament bringing together some of the top U-16 academy teams from around the world. Fans of the game can think of it as the ultimate stage for the next wave of stars — the players you’ll be watching light up Europe, MLS and beyond in the future.

The tournament, which was announced via Lionel Messi's social media account, is built around the idea of inspiring the next generation. Alongside the matches, fans and players can expect a packed week of activities — from community events and skill showcases to interactive fan experiences.
Some of the clubs confirmed to take part in the event include Inter Miami, FC Barcelona, River Plate, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Newell Old Boys and Manchester City.
Teams will compete in 18 matches over the course of six days across Inter Miami’s facilities, including Chase Stadium and the Florida Blue Training Center.
The tournament will consist of two groups of four teams competing in a round-robin format during the opening three days. The top finishers from each group will move on to the playoff stage, where final standings will be decided. The competition will conclude with the third-place match and the championship final — both set to take place at Chase Stadium, where the first-ever MESSI CUP champion will be crowned.
It's no surprise that the tournament will be hosted in Miami since the city has become soccer's new heartbeat thanks to Messi’s arrival at Inter Miami. Now, that same energy is being passed on to the youth level.

Whether you’re a scout, a fan of youth football, or just someone who loves seeing the next big thing before everyone else, the Messi Cup is where you’ll want to be this December.
